We had an ethical dilemma this past month that turned out to be a good experience for our family. We had to make a decision between two good things...our commitment to our beliefs and our commitment to our daughter's soccer team.
We chose to stick to our beliefs, which meant we would not be participating in any Sunday soccer games. Yes, we feel like we let the team down with this choice, but we feel our commitment to God should be honored first. Luckily we found a soccer club respects our commitment to God.
When Sarah was asked to guest play for a tournament this weekend, I was concerned that she might be singled out by other teammates or parents for her decision to not play on the Sunday games. I reiterated to the coach her choice to not play on Sunday's and he was respectful in his response. He gladly welcomed Sarah to participate in the tournament on Saturday and thanked me for raising a daughter who works hard and has a good attitude.
Here's an email of gratitude I sent to the coach and the team...
Hi Team,
We made it home safe as well. Just a bout of the flu and croup hit Sarah's little sister Kat last night, but she's a fighter and surviving.
Thank you for giving Sarah the opportunity to guest play on
your team this weekend. She definitely grew from the experience and
loved every moment.
It was really neat to sit and observe your team come together on and off the field. I loved how they immediately took Sarah, Annaliese, and Ivy under their wings. That speaks volumes about the kind of values you instill in your daughters and the development of character the Soccer Edge Academy aspires to uphold.
My youngest daughter Kat was amazed when she saw the team praying before the games yesterday. That is something you don't see very often these days. This is truly a remarkable club, not like any we have been with before. You've got something special and we are grateful to be a part of it.
Congrats on the win today and best of luck tonight :) Go Edge!
Thank you!
